MakerFaire Questions

posted in: News | 1

I will try to address some of the most asked questions at the MakerFaire.

“When will you be open?”, was, without a doubt the number one question. This is not a simple question because we plan on opening in stages. We have never done this before so we want to make sure that we get it right. This is the plan as of today, things may change.

Sometime in the next 2 weeks we will have at least one or two “Sneak Peek” events. We are going to invite anyone that wishes to come, an opportunity to see the place in person. We will have a brief presentation and allow people to see the space in it’s current state, however messy that may be. The presentation will briefly explain how it will all work. As I said, all are welcome, but we are most interested in the people that are a little more hardcore and enthusiastic about the space. People that we call Early Adopters. Most importantly we need to meet the people that are interested in becoming instructors, employees or those who can help fix/adjust/setup some of the equipment. We will also go over the educational needs, the development of classes and the compensation plan.

In early to mid December, hopefully before Christmas, we plan on soft opening. By soft opening, I mean, we are going to allow the above mentioned hardcore makers to start using the space. There will be a limited number of these memberships available and all of the equipment will not be operational. This is basically our “Work out the kinks” stage.

By January-February we expect the space to be ready for prime time and we will open for general membership.

What will the hours be? Once we open for general membership the hours will be 9 AM until 10 PM, 7 days a week. The hours will most likely be a little different/flexible for the first few months.

Do you have gift certificates? With the holidays coming up many people would like to give memberships as gifts. Yes, we will have gift certificates available very soon.

What is the best way to find out what is going on a The Manufactory? Right here! This is our most efficient way to distribute information.

I just wanted to take a moment and say that I am glad to see this space opening soon. I signed up for e mail notifications at the Maker Faire but haven’t received anything yet. Was just wondering what other ways I can make sure to not miss an info session.
